Ride guide

9 new vehicles to get you into Canada’s great outdoors—and back again

Judging from the latest stats for vehicle sales in Canada, one thing is eminently clear—we are big-time pickup fans in this country. Indeed, the top three selling vehicles here last year were all trucks. And while many trucks now sport the kind of features usually associated with luxury cars, and often share similar price tags, they’re still the go-to vehicle for hauling boats and trailers to our favourite fishing holes and hunting spots. And SUVs come in a close second for our choice of outdoor-ready vehicles. Here are nine of our favourite rides geared toward Canadian anglers and hunters. For prices and more information on the pickups and SUVs featured here, please contact the manufacturers.

HONDA: RIDGELINE

Honda Ridgeline

Redesigned for 2017, Honda’s Ridgeline took home the North American Truck of the Year award at the North American International Auto Show in January. Ridgeline has a number of stand-out features including an in-bed storage trunk and dual-action tailgate—which is both left- and bottom-hinged. The truck’s bed is also wider and longer than earlier models, and has eight heavy-duty tie-down cleats for securing your load. Available in five trims, all coming with Intelligent Traction Management System (Snow/Sand/Mud). Its unibody construction means that it can’t tow as much as other mid-size trucks in its class, but it will easily handle the average fishing boat, and is well-suited to haul ATVs and side-by-sides.

It’s also noteworthy that the regular cab versions of the Titan trucks have the highest payload and towing specs in the Titan line-up. Both the Titan and Titan XD are available with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and in either basic S or slightly-fancier SV trim. Equipped with choice of advanced Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel (XD) or Nissan's new 5.6-litre Endurance V8 gasoline engines (XD and TITAN).
