Enrico Puglisi is one of modern fly-fishing’s great innovators, known worldwide as creator of the now-classic Peanut Butter fly, and the unique material (EP Fibers) used to create it. He’s recently launched a series of equally revolutionary products, called EP Brushes, for tying large fly patterns—such as steelhead, pike or saltwater flies—with speed and precision. These dubbing brushes are constructed of synthetic EP Fibers, blended with flash and other materials, twisted between two strands of ultra-fine stainless steel wire. To create a bushy body (or wing or tail) you simply wrap the brush around the hook as in this video. EP brushes range from 0.5 inches (for shrimp and crab flies) to 5 inches in width, in a wild variety of colours. For example, OC associate editor and fly-fishing columnist Scott Gardner has lately been using the 5-inch Ultra and 3-inch CraftFur versions to tie huge articulated lake-trout and pike flies.
