Canada’s got (outdoor) talent! The 17th Outdoor Sportsman Awards (aka Golden Moose Awards) were handed out last night in Las Vegas, and Canadian outdoor TV stars Jim Shockey and Dave Mercer were among the big winners. The prestigious awards are presented annually to honour the best shows appearing on the Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel.

Victoria, B.C.’s Jim Shockey took home the hardware in the marquis Best Overall award for his show Jim Shockey’s Hunting Adventures, beating out 11 other nominees. Also up for the Best Overall award was Dave Mercer’s Facts of Fishing.

Port Perry, Ontario’s Mercer received the top honour in the Best Videography category, however, prevailing over nine other nominees, including Jim Shockey’s UNCHARTED. Sharing in the award is Mercer’s video and production team at Belleville, Ontario’s Vantage Point Media House.

Shockey and his crew also had nominations in the Best Big Game category (Jim Shockey’s Hunting Adventures) and Best Sound Design (Jim Shockey’s UNCHARTED). Mercer and his gang, meanwhile, also picked up a nomination in the Best Fishing category.

The awards ceremony was held at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas during the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s annual industry gathering, the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show.
