Sylvan 1600 Avenger SC

Sylvan kicks off its 2004 lineup with the all-new Avenger line of aluminum fishing boats. The 1600 Avenger SC is a nifty little single-console model with loads of built-in fishing features. Though only 16' long, the Avenger still sports an impressive 90-inch beam and 32-inch hull depth, which should make it capable of handling rough water. It has Sylvan’s exclusive Gull Wing hull and raked-back bow design, reported to provide superior on-plane performance and a smooth, dry ride. The Avenger’s features don’t stop there, either. It offers a large bow casting platform, front and rear livewells, lockable rod storage, a 24-gallon in-floor fuel tank, a trolling-motor panel and a new rounded console with full instrumentation. The 1600 is also available in a tiller version. Learn more: 1-866-766-9698; www.sylvanmarine.com

Tracker Tundra 21 DC
Tracker Marine got the boating world’s attention last year when it released the Tundra line of multi-species fishing boats. The all-welded hulls are created by a process called “stretch forming,” which provides curves and corners typically found only on fibreglass boats. In fact, the Tundra looks and performs like a fibreglass boat. Truly a 60-plus-mile-an-hour aluminum fishing boat, the Tundra comes in 17-, 18-, 20- and 21-foot models in a wide variety of deck and console configurations. The Tundra 21 DC (the 21-footer) can handle all the horsepower you throw at it, and it’s rated for a 250-horsepower outboard. New for 2004 are a number of features designed to make this boat a top-notch fishing machine. It now comes with a beefy 36-volt, 101-pound-thrust Minn Kota bow mount, a Lowrance X-97 sonar on the bow and a Lowrance AS 320 on the console. There’s also a helm and buddy seat with suspension, and the livewell has been upgraded with an oxygen generation system. Learn more: (417) 873-5900; www.trackerboats.com

For 2004, Tracker has added a 16-footer to its Targa line of all-welded aluminum deep-Vs. This 16' 2" boat offers a stable 92-inch beam and features a two-piece hull that’s welded at the keel for increased durability. The 17-degree deadrise and reverse-chine hull ensure a smooth, dry ride. This single-console boat comes standard with a 40-horsepower Mercury outboard (which can be upgraded to a 60). It also features a bow and stern livewell and baitwell, a 40-pound-thrust Minn Kota bow mount, a tackle management system, top-loading rod lockers and full instrumentation. Like all Tracker boats, the Targa 16 SC comes pre-rigged and includes a matching trailer. Learn more: (417) 873-5900; www.trackerboats.com

FIBREGLASS BOATS

Nitro NX 898

The new Nitro NX 898 is a bass boat with a split personality. Designed to be equally at home in freshwater or saltwater, the NX 898 is quickly gaining favour with coastal anglers in the southeastern U.S. However, this 19' 2" boat’s big-water handling abilities are also well suited to anglers on the Great Lakes. The new Nitro comes in a single or dual console version, but the truly unique feature is the carpetless, non-skid deck. Covered in easy-to-care-for fibreglass, the decks are effortless to clean after a long day on the water. Already common on saltwater boats, these non-skid decks are sure to find favour with freshwater anglers, too. For fishermen who just can’t stand the stark, clean look, there’s also a snap-in carpet available.
The NX 898 comes fully rigged and ready for the water with a standard 150-horsepower outboard, which can be upgraded to a beefy Mercury 200 OptiMax. Other standard features include a 24-volt trolling motor, dual oversized locking rod boxes, a large divided livewell, a Lowrance X-47 fishfinder and a custom-matched trailer. Although the 898 is based on Nitro’s 896 bass boat hull, the strakes, chine and step have been modified to provide even more performance. Learn more: (417) 873-5900; www.nitroboats.com
