Into fly fishing? There’s plenty of new gear for you, too.
Here are our favourites

This past September, hundreds of fly-fishing tackle manufacturers from around the world gathered to display their new wares at the Fly-Fishing Retailer World Trade Expo in Denver, Colorado. Some products were ahead of their time, some were intriguing, some were silly and still others simply stood out above the rest. Here are the ones that caught our eye.

MOST EXCITING
FLY TYING MATERIAL
GLOFLOSS AND GLOTHREAD

picThose who fish into the night have long sought phosphorescent fly-tying materials. To meet that demand, renowned Quebec-based UNI Products has added GloFloss and GloThread to its line of glow-in-the-dark goods, which includes GloYarn and GloTinsel. These products emit light in total darkness for up to three hours, and the wide variety of colours should meet all tying needs. UNI Products, 1-877-989-2195; www.uniproducts.com

BEST NEW
CONCEPT
ANTI-STATIC HAIR STACKER

picFly tiers should appreciate Anvil Industries new Anti-Static Hair Stacker because it promises to eliminate one of their worst enemies: static cling. Made from transparent polypropylene—so you can easily see when the hairs are perfectly even—the two-piece stacker is infused with a special anti-static compound. Complete with a heavy brass base, the stacker will soon be available in small, medium and large sizes. Anvil Industries, 1-800-676-2887; www.anvilusa.com

COCOONS

picMade by Live Eyewear, Cocoons feature adjustable, ultra lightweight frames with polycarbonate side shields for protection from the elements. Available in a wide range of sizes, Cocoons can be worn as conventional sunglasses, or they can fit comfortably over prescription glasses. The impact- and scratch-resistant polarized lenses offer superior optics, a UV400 rating and come in grey, amber or yellow. Live Eyewear, 1-800-834-2563; www.cocoonseyewear.com

TIKKINA

picPetzl’s latest hands-free offering, the Tikkina headlamp—with two LEDs mounted on an adjustable headband—is perfect for tying on flies after dark (or for making your way back from the stream). The least expensive lamp in Petzl’s line, the submersible Tikkina weighs just 78 grams, runs for 120 hours on three AAA batteries and throws a 13-metre beam. Petzl, 1-877-807-3805; www.petzl.com
