The Question

Hi Ken:

How could I get my deer measured by a pro? I measured the width, and it was 23 inches, and I believe its antlers would score very high, because the tips are long.

Thanks,

Gilles Laforge (aka Buffalo)

The Answer

Congratulations on your big buck. A rack of 23 inches is a really wide deer, and if it’s got long tines, it’s definitely a candidate for the books. The Boone and Crockett Club is recognized as the official scoring organization for North American game animals. Go to this website to find an official scorer nearest you: http://www.boone-crockett.org/bgRecords/records_omlist.asp?area=bgRecords

You could also ask at your local wildlife federation club—they’ll know the scorers in your area. A score of 160 points makes the annual record book, and 170 points the all-time book for whitetails. Good luck.
