Thank you to all who sponsored the Outdoor Canada canoe for this morning’s Paddle the Don fundraiser. And a special shout out goes to my good neighbour and fishing buddy, Jon Baker, who did me a big solid by being my bow man for the event. Best of all, Jon’s one of those guys who actually likes to portage, so he lugged our canoe across two work-arounds (we opted to kiss off the third portage and shoot the mild rapids instead).

In all, we did the run from north of uptown’s Eglinton Avenue down to the rivermouth at Lake Ontario in roughly 90 minutes. We arrived too early for sponsor Banrock Station’s wine tasting, but just in time for the first burgers off the grill.

Hats off to all the organizers, especially my friend Phil Goodwin, chair of Toronto’s Don Watershed Regeneration Council. It was Phil who first got me participating in this worthy cause several years ago, and his enthusiasm for bringing back the Don is truly infectious.
