photophoto Three-year-old Owen of Dresden, Ontario, caught this 22.2-pound carp in May 2008 at the annual Shetland fishing derby on the Sydenham river. The fish was a new derby record and the largest caught in the 30-plus years the derby has ran. His dad says that when people ask Owen how big the fish he caught was, he reaches as far as his little arms can reach and its not just a fish story, its the truth. More amazing still, he caught the monster carp using his Superman fishing rod.

stevan
10-year-old Stevan caught this impressive 40-inch northern pike on Lake Manitou, which is on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. He was fishing with his grandfather, mother and sister when he hooked into the toothy critter. His grandmother, Paula, says Stevan's now determined to catch only big fish. "No more small stuff for him," she says. Congratulations on the catch, Stevan and we wish you all the best in your quest for more lunkers and monsters.

brandonbrandon
Devin Kessel caught this 16-pound 6 1/2-ounce, 41-inch northern pike on Echo Lake, Saskatchewan, a few days after his 6th birthday. It was his first fish ever! He reeled it in with the help of his dad, using his Incredible Hulk fishing rod and reel. Talk about a great birthday gift. Way to go, Devin. Here's to all the many more birthdays and fish to come.

brandonbrandon

megan

Megan caught this pike, her first ever, on Kashe Lake in Gravenhurst, Ontario. It weighed nine pounds and measured 33 inches long. Her fishing buddy Sarah netted the beast. Sarah is also an avid pike fisher with three pike to her name. The girls caught the toothy trolling a six-inch double jointed orange Rapala.

eric

Thirteen year old Erik caught this monster 15+ pound pike while fishing from a paddleboat. Needless to say, when he hooked it, he went for a ride without even paddling. Erik's catch is proof that you don't need to be an expert fisherman to catch the big one, says his father.

connor

Six-year-old Connor and his seven-year-old cousin Hailey caught these fine bass near their grandparent's house on Kasawakamak Lake. Way to go, fishing cousins.

DeclanFour-year-old Declan caught this 10-pound walleye in the same cove and almost a year to the day that his brother Brendan caught his biggest fish to date, an 11-pound walleye. Brendan's holding up his brother's fish because it was almost as tall as Declan. Looks like fishing skill, and maybe a little luck, run in the family. Way to go, guys.

BrendanBrendan
Eight year old Brendan McDonald caught this amazing 11 pound eight ounce walleye trolling by a point on Long Lake, Saskatchewan one evening last August. "You may never see another walleye this big again in all of your years to come," his dad told him that night. Here's hoping you beat your own record Brendan.

AshleyMegan
Twins Ashley (LEFT) and Megan (RIGHT) are three years old here. This was their first time catching and reeling in walleye all by themselves. They had a blast catching these fish in Lesser Slave Lake, Alberta. It was a fun weekend.

AlexAlex (LEFT) 12-year-old Alex caught this crazy combo on his last cast of the day at a very small local pond in Highland Park, Illinois. He was reeling in the bluegill when a big bass hit the bluegill headfirst and started breaking water working the fish down his throat. "I feel lucky to have a fishing partner like Alex," says his dad, Kevin. (RIGHT) Alex is also a threat on bigger water, such as Lake of the Woods, where he caught this respectable northern pike.

JamesJames

Evan Evan Evan Evan
I am Evan and I am 8 years old. These are pictures of my fishing trips over the last few years: (left to right - 1) This picture is of me and my sister, Brittany, fishing for yellow perch with my parents in the winter of 1999 at Chip Lakes, Alberta, outside Fort McMurray. (2) I caught this 3.5-pound northern pike ice fishing at George's Lake, Alberta, in the winter of 2000. (3&4) Walleye fishing with my dad in September 2001. My dad caught a 6.5-walleye and I caught a 3.5-pound walleye in the Athabasca River in Fort McMurray. These were just two of the 20 fish (not exaggerating) we caught using rubber jigs from a boat. All the fish that night were between three and six pounds. We had a great time!

MatthewMatthew, 7, caught this 7-1/2 pound bowfin, in Cooks Bay near Keswick, Ontario. It was the last cast of the day during National Fishing Week and the whole family was getting skunked. That is, until Matthew caught this prehistoric whopper, using 10-pound test.

I caught it in Long Point, Ontario. It took me almost four hours to catch this fish. I was so excited about my catch.

MichaelEleven-year-old Michael of Georgina Island, Ontario, caught this trophy in July 2001. He was 50 feet from shore, sitting on his surfboard on the south shore of Lake Simcoe, Ontario, when he hooked the monster smallmouth bass. It weighed in at eight pounds, two ounces. After the picture was taken, Michael released his prize into the lake for another lucky fisherman.

BradleyMy name is Bradley and I am 11 years old. This is a photo of the first muskie I caught. I caught this muskie in Lake Stoco in Tweed, Ontario. I was using my dad's baitcasting reel and a white spinnerbait. My dad and I quickly boated this muskie, took a picture and released it so that I can catch it another year. After our fishing trip I told my dad that he needs to buy another baitcaster because I am keeping his.

RangerRanger, from Wasaga Beach, Ontario dreams of one day going to the Bahamas to catch a 1,000-pound blue marlin. In the meantime, he's doing his best to catch trophy fish closer to home, like this sizable smallmouth bass. MitchellMatthewI caught both of these pike with a Floating Rapala at Lac La Nonne in Alberta last spring. I was at camp with my school. Both fish were one and a half pounds. On both days, I caught up to 25 fish and one of them was 12 pounds.

BonnieI am six years old. Here is a picture of me with the pike I caught in Travers Reservoir near Calgary, Alberta, when I was five. I was fishing with my dad and grandpa in our canoe. My dad thought I had weeds on my hook, but I knew it was a fish. The kids at the dock couldn't believe it was my fish. They thought it was amazing!
