THIS MONTH: Worms are pretty cool-they're slimy, gross, creepy-crawly
animals that live in dirt. But did you know that they have important
jobs?
They help keep soil rich and healthy
by turning organic matter (like dead plants or animals) into nutrients
and creating underground tunnels, which air and water move through.
And when it comes to fishing, worms
make great live bait. The best times to collect worms are at night
(so take a flashlight) or when it's raining. But you have to be quiet
and fast. If worms feel you walking or are exposed to your bright
light, they'll crawl for cover.
Store them with some dirt in a container
that has small holes in the lid. Then put it in the fridge until you're
ready to head out. Just remember that you can't fish with worms or
other types of live bait on all lakes, so check before you put one
on your hook. |
