This past Saturday, my wife and I once again had the honour of attending the annual Ontario Chinese Anglers Association fundraiser dinner and awards night in Markham, Ontario. And for the third year running, our hosts were Andy and Vita Pallotta from the Canadian Sport Fishing League and Canadian Outdoor Sport Shows (thanks again for the great evening, my friends).
As usual, the multi-course banquet at Casa Victoria attracted the who’s who of the sportfishing industry, including representatives from Shimano Canada, Johnson Controls, Mercury Marine, Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows, Boat Tech, Lures and Tours, Pure Fishing, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Ontario Tourism and Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources, among others.
And reprising his role as emcee and chief fundraiser was Leo Stakos, co-host of Fish TV. Excellent job, Leo: the evening raised $32,000 for the 400-member OCAA’s tournaments and educational programs, with a good chunk of the cash coming from Stakos’ own wallet.
The main event of the 15th annual dinner, though, was the crowning of this year’s OCAA Angler of the Year, Richard Hsi. The runners up for the crown were Don Chu, Hung-Chi Lee and Raymond Ng. Congratulations all. And congratulations, as well, go to OCAA president Raymond Zee and his fellow organizers for yet another successful evening.
