Attention pro bass fishing fans. Some of North America’s top anglers will be coming to Orillia this summer for the BASS Federation Nation Eastern Divisional final on Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching. Slated for July 20 to 24, the high-profile tournament will be the regional qualifier for the BASS Federation Nation Championships, slated for October on Florida’s Harris chain of lakes.

No doubt expected among the pros to descend on the neighbouring Ontario lakes will be local favourite Mike Desforges, who qualifed for the 2008 Nation Championships following last year’s Eastern Divisional on Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire.

Last year’s Eastern Divisional winner, Matt Desimone (pictured here), took top honours with a three-day total of 15 bass weighing 34 pounds 3 ounces. I should think our American friends will be pleasantly surprised with their bags of fish at this coming July’s event, given that Simcoe routinely gives up five-fish days pushing 30 pounds.
