If you enjoy steelheading, or fishing for any anadromous species for that matter, it’s great to know that people such as April Vokey are working on your behalf to help improve these vital fisheries. Vokey recently launched a new fundraising initiative, Flies for Fins, to raise cash for the important work of the Steelhead Society of B.C.. And the best thing is, she doesn’t want your money.
Instead, Vokey is asking anglers from across the land to donate steelhead flies, which will then be sold at B.C. tackle shops, including Reaction Fly and Tackle, Pacific Angler, Michael and Young Fly Shop, Sea-Run Fly and Tackle, Whistler FlyFishing and Kelowna’s Trout Water Fly and Tackle.
“This money will be put towards habitat restoration and several other similar projects, which ultimately will help to save all anadromous species,” says Vokey.
To learn more about how you can participate, visit the Flies for Fins Facebook page.
Or you could just get tying. As Vokey says: “Feel free to send one fly, or ten! Make them as fancy or as plain as you would like.”
Flies can be sent to: Flies for Fins, 8505 Norman Cres., Chilliwack, B.C. Canada V2P 5C6
