First came Conservative MP Garry Breitkreuz’s private member’s bill, C-301, designed to scrap the gun registry and then some, including the loosening of rules governing the transport of restricted weapons. That bill had its first reading in the House of Commons on February 9. Then on April 1 (no joke!), the government introduced another bill to scrap the registry, S-5, this time in the Senate. It, too, has only had its first reading. And now today we’ve heard news that Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner has introduced yet another private member’s bill, C-391, again aimed at torpedoing the registry. Is it just me, or is this all getting a bit ridiculous, not to mention confusing? Mind you, maybe that’s the point.
