I built my first permanent wooden ice hut in 1968 and placed it off Jackson’s Point on southern Ontario’s renowned Lake Simcoe. In the intervening 50 years, I’ve also owned just about every type of portable ice shelter that’s ever been made. Some were good, some were bad and some were downright ugly.
