Tackle Week 2016: 10 must-have new lures for Canadian anglers

2016’s best new lures

The hottest new jigs, topwaters, swimbaits, cranks and more for walleye, muskie, bass, pike and trout

Every year, the fishing world gathers at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades Show (ICAST), to show off the latest angling innovations. And every year, I have the enjoyable task of picking my favourites for Canadian anglers. Here are this year’s winners.

Best Finesse Topwater

A walk-the-dog-style surface bait, Storm’s new Arashi Top Walker glides longer and smoother than similar cigar-shaped baits thanks to partially flattened sides that prevent it from rolling over. As well, the hook hangers are slightly rotated to keep the large hooks close to the lure’s body. All this keeps the hooks below the bait at all times, making for hookups. The lure comes in a 4¼-inch model for smallmouth bass, a 5 1/8-inch version suited for largemouth and 10 fish-catching colours.
