Video: The simplest, fastest way to clean your fly line

If you want to instantly add five, even 10 feet to your cast, wash your fly line. Seriously. With time and use, lines get coated with silt, pollen and other stuff in the water, dust from closets, whatever’s on your hands and, if you practise casting outdoors, grass stains. Taking off this gunk will instantly make your line float better, shoot better and reduce wear on your delicate rod guides.

Cleaning a fly line is easy, but if you’re not careful, you can also get yourself into an almighty tangle. The key to avoiding this is staying organized. The video below details the “Two Bucket Method.” Using only mild soap, warm water and, yes, two buckets, it’s the easiest slickest way I’ve found to manage the job. (The action starts at 1:10).
