BUFFALO POUND LAKE

Located 28 kilometres north of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan’s Buffalo Pound Lake is shallow and easily accessed—and it freezes over early. Yellow perch are the mainstay here, with anglers jigging small spoons tipped with salted minnows and fish eyes. And don’t be surprised if you also hook walleye, pike, whitefish, ciscoes and burbot. Local angling educators Jeff and Jason Matity can provide more intel on the lake.
