SUSTAINABLE HARVEST

Owing to its new-found popularity, chaga has become extremely susceptible to overharvesting. Only harvest chaga the size of a large grapefruit or bigger, and leave behind a third of its mass. This extremely slow-growing fungus takes decades to reach maturity, but it’s capable of regenerating if it’s not entirely removed. You’re also far less likely to damage the tree if you don’t remove the entire growth. For the safest and cleanest results, use a saw.
