The vessel is rightfully named the Marbled Murrelet, not simply for the bird that inspired its design, but also as a quiet tribute to conservation. The marbled murrelet is an elusive and easily overlooked seabird, yet its role in environmental awareness, especially regarding the preservation of coastal old-growth forests, has been profound.
In that regard, the name recognizes the unsung heroes who quietly defend this wild, magnificent coast, relentless in their fight for conservation, education and lasting change. It pays tribute to the watchful eyes of Coast Guard and fisheries crews, the dedication of RCMP officers, the sacred stewardship of Indigenous guardians and the unwavering service of the Canadian Armed Forces. Their vigilance shields not only these rugged shores, but also the very planet we all call home.
