The year’s top new rods, reels, apparel, accessories and more for making the most of fishing on the fly
The International Fly Tackle Dealer Show was cancelled for the second year in row, but that didn’t stop me from previewing the latest fly-fishing gear on the market. With the in-person show shut down, I instead contacted the manufacturers myself to get the lowdown on their top new offerings. The good news is, there’s still a wide variety of interesting new products for 2022, despite the pandemic. Here are my top 10 picks for Canadian fly anglers.
Ultra-tough and ultra-reliable, the Rove reel was designed with travelling anglers in mind. While the partially ported frame makes this reel strong and light, it’s also visually stunning, with northern lights graphics and laser engraved flies. Other features include a proven cork drag and a large arbor to accommodate more backing. Suitable for everything from trout to tarpon, the reel comes in sizes 5/7, 7/9, 9/11 and 11/12.
