One of the trickiest aspects of properly sharpening a knife is getting the blade angle right. The Horl sharpener solves that with a highly unconventional, but extremely simple (to use, at least) innovation: instead of
moving the blade along a stationary sharpening surface, the knife stays in place (held by a magnet) while you roll the whetstone along it.
The system has two main parts: a guide block with a powerful magnet and precise angles (15° for fine edges and 20° for robust blades) that holds the knife in place magnetically; and a roller with two discs: a coarse disc for sharpening and a finer disc for honing. You attach your knife blade (facing up) to the magnetic angle support, then roll the sharpening disc along the entire blade edge. It’s beyond simple, and results in a perfect edge every time. I sharpened every blade in my house, and was enjoying the tool so much that I very nearly asked my neighbours if I could sharpen their knives, too.
