Since northwestern Ontario’s 13,000-acre Dog Lake serves as a back-up water supply for nearby Thunder Bay, it’s protected from development (other than a few fishing resorts and Silver Falls Provincial Park at the southwest end). That’s made for great fishing for walleye, as well as big smallmouth bass—the lake record is a mighty 7.8 pounds.
