SOUTHERN ALBERTA

When snow and ice lock up much of southern Alberta, the rivers remain open and attract tens of thousands of migrating mallards. Simply follow them from the rivers to where they’re feeding, or scout out feedlots and windblown grain fields. Late in the year, the birds are thickly feathered, so it pays to step up a shot size or two. Contact the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society to help organize a hunt.
