Simple and effective, boiling water reliably kills all biological pathogens. Health Canada recommends boiling water vigorously for at least one minute (two minutes at elevations higher than 2,000 metres). The downside is that boiling doesn’t remove particles, and it sometimes gives the water an unpleasant flat taste.
