Friendly, helpful staff are a sign of a well-run lodge

#4  GUT-CHECK

Unlike vacation resorts and hotels, which are usually part of big corporate chains, most lodges are small, independent, often family-run businesses. No two are alike, and they all have a distinct, often charming character. Some are run with the precision and discipline of a fine hotel, while others feel like your buddy’s camp. Most are somewhere in between. So after investigating and crunching the numbers, you also need to consider this X factor and listen to your gut. Again, there’s no right or wrong answer—it’s just about finding the best fit for you. And as any veteran of these trips will agree, the time you spend doing your due diligence will pay off enormously in fish, fun and memories.

Most recently, associate editor Scott Gardner ventured to Kasba Lake Lodge, and yes, he did his homework. You can read about that fishing adventure here: www.outdoorcanada.ca/kasbalake.
