BOBCATS

Slightly smaller than lynx, bobcats are shy, solitary cats, though more numerous across their range than incidental sightings would suggest. Hunting seasons are open in parts of Alberta and B.C., generally running from November through February. Similar to pursuing lynx, a typical hunt consists of scouring roads, trails and river or creek valleys for fresh tracks before releasing dogs to pursue and, hopefully, tree a cat. Hunters then walk in to the sound of the baying hounds, often in difficult conditions. As with all of the cat hunts conducted behind dogs, the actual taking of the animal isn’t difficult; the thrill is in the pursuit and watching fine dog work by first-class houndsmen.
