Modern crossbows are engineered to work, even if they’re not taken care of properly. But why wouldn’t you do everything possible to keep your bow in optimal working order? Whether you’re at home or in the field, regular maintenance is easy when you keep the following tips in mind. And if you still have questions, check your crossbow’s user manual, or email the manufacturer’s warranty department.

#1 GENERAL INSPECTION
Problems can usually be avoided by routinely inspecting your crossbow every time you use it. Start by giving it a shake to see, feel or hear if anything is loose. Inspect the pullies, cams and anchor connection points to make sure everything is solid and tight. Any movement in the components can quickly cause string wear, or even breakage.
Crossbow limbs are made of fibreglass, so it’s possible for them to crack, splinter or separate. Inspect them closely, running your bare hands over the surfaces to feel for any burrs or loose material. Also run a fingernail down the limbs to see if it catches on any cracks that are otherwise near impossible to see. Finally ensure the limbs are not twisted or uneven.
