FOXES

Although foxes are distributed from coast to coast to coast, we don’t have a strong fox-hunting culture in Canada. That’s because they don’t provide food, only rarely do they pose a significant threat to agricultural producers, and their pelts are not particularly desirable. The exception may be in the territories, where Arctic fox pelts continue to be used for making garments.

Regulations for hunting foxes are highly variable across the country. In some provinces, these predators are considered furbearers, available only to trappers; in other provinces, there are restrictions around residency, land tenure, species, firearms and licensing, so be sure to understand the local regulations before heading afield.
