Four simple steps to avoid tossing freezer-burned game meat

First, you need to properly thaw the meat to see exactly what you’re dealing with (the example in these photos is moose liver). Since you’re working with a cut that’s already compromised, you should defrost it slowly in a refrigerator or bowl of ice water. Don’t just dunk it in warm water or throw it in the microwave, which can promote bacterial growth and worsen any funky odours.
