I also use my sonar to find edges on the bottom where hard sand, rock, stones, boulders or gravel meet the likes of soft mud, marl or detritus. For this, I prefer using a split screen of down-imaging and 2D sonar. Even if the overall depth doesn’t vary where the bottom composition changes, walleye, yellow perch and smallmouth bass, in particular, will still use the edge like pedestrians walking along a busy city sidewalk—hopefully looking for a bite to eat.
