The St. Lawrence River, which the Mohawk call Kaniatarowanenneh or the “big waterway,” has a rich heritage of indigenous life and habitation that includes 10,000 years of fishing and travel. Elder Norman Peters (above right, with Lawrence) has been tasked to share his knowledge and expertise with a new generation of Mohawks who grew up disconnected from the river. Norman came aboard Lawrence’s Ranger Fisherman for a day of storytelling and fishing.

In this special two-part edition of Blue Fish Radio, learn how Norman’s people lost touch with the river, and what’s being done to reconnect young people. And as a bonus, Lawrence even catches his personal best smallmouth bass.
