To tackle trout in tight quarters, dust off your ice rod
A simple worm-and-hook combo has likely caught me more brook trout than any other offering, but just about any soft-plastic presentation that you would use for panfish can work. Just add a small splitshot to help get your lure down into the deeper pockets. And if you think you’ve blown your cover and alerted the fish, take a break for 15 minutes then try again. It might be enough to put the trout back at ease, and give you another shot at bringing home dinner.
