#2 WASH AND DRY
Purists may cringe at the thought of dish soap touching cast iron (above), but a solution of mild soap and warm water is handy for removing any remaining rust residue (some stubborn areas may require another scouring). Once you’re satisfied all the rust has been removed, dry the cookware thoroughly with a towel or put it in the oven at low heat for 10 minutes to evaporate all moisture.
