Blue Fish Radio: Ontario Women Anglers aim to get families outdoors

Outdoor Canada is pleased to present Blue Fish Radio—podcasts about the future of fish and fishing in Canada. The program, produced and hosted by Lawrence Gunther, is dedicated to sharing first-hand angling knowledge, scientific discoveries and supporting local champions who protect and enhance their waters.

In 2012, Yvonne Brown (above) founded Fishing 101 for Women, which evolved into Ontario Women Anglers. Her focus is to contribute to the growth of the sport by increasing female participation, and in turn, so that women will pass on their skills and knowledge to the next generation of new anglers. In 2016, Brown became the first women to receive the Rick Amsbury Award of Excellence, presented by the Canadian Angler Hall of Fame, for her outstanding contributions to sportfishing.

In this episode of Blue Fish Radio, host Lawrence Gunther talks to Brown about the OWA’s many programs encouraging women and families to involved in outdoor activities, and help create stewards of our natural resources
