#6 MONOLITHIC BULLETS

Monolithic bullets are made of a single material, generally copper or a copper alloy, so there’s no risk of metals separating. To achieve expansion, a hollow in the nose peels back on impact; a brass or polymer tip is often used to help initiate this expansion. Monolithics typically retain more than 90 per cent of their original weight. They don’t expand excessively, and they penetrate significantly more than a cup-and-core bullet of the same weight. Popular monolithics include Barnes’ TSX (above) and TTSX, Hornady’s GMX, Federal’s Trophy Copper and Winchester’s Power-Core.
