Blue Fish Radio: New scientific discoveries about bass and angling pressure

Blue Fish Radio

Sportfishing researcher Dr. David Phipp

Outdoor Canada is pleased to present Blue Fish Radio—podcasts about the future of fish and fishing in Canada. The program, produced and hosted by Lawrence Gunther, is dedicated to sharing first-hand angling knowledge, scientific discoveries and supporting local champions who protect and enhance their waters.

In this episode, host Lawrence Gunther talks to Dr. David Phipp (above), a fish biologist known for his work on conservation genetics, and the interplay between anglers and healthy fish populations. Dr. David Phipp is a Director of the Fisheries Genetics Lab at the Illinois Natural History Survey, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois. Most recently, he’s done crucial work documenting damage that fishing for nesting bass does to fish populations. He also challenges anglers to support regulations that would address current conservation inadequacies—and boost fish populations by as much as 50 per cent. More information about Dr. Philipp’s research and work is available here.
