Meet Gord Deval, Star

Well, it’s official: one of my good fishing buddies, 79-year-old Gord Deval, is now a bona fide star. Earlier today, Gord was inducted into the Scarborough Walk of Fame, complete with his own star at the Scarborough Town Centre.

Inductees are selected based on their many accomplishments and contributions to the community of Scarborough, just east of Toronto. See my April 27 blog entry for a rundown of the many reasons Gord was selected this year.

Honoured alongside Gord today were:

  • Marilyn Denis, well-known Toronto television and radio personality
  • Dwayne de Rosario, international soccer star and Toronto FC member
  • Lois James, Order of Canada environmentalist
  • Debra Mcrath, stage and television actor, currently playing Mayor Popowitcz on CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie
  • Don Montgomery, a well-known community sports leader

Comedian Colin Mochrie, who just happens to be the husband of Debra McGrath, hosted this year’s gala.

Congrats again, Gord! It was great to see you up there on stage, and it was even greater to see so many members of your Scarborough Fly and Bait Casting Club come out to wish you well. You’ve done anglers everywhere proud.
