Even in snowbird season, there are plenty of fish in the sea

Redfish (officially known as “red drum”) are a prized inshore catch up and down the Atlantic coast, from Massachusetts all the way to Texas. Along with sleek, coppery good looks, they fight as hard as a freshwater fish twice as big, and are very fine eating. We had a few on the line, but the only red I landed was this 14-incher, still several growing season shy of the slot limit. Earlier in the autumn, enormous reds up to 30 pounds move into the shallow creeks, where you can catch them on light or fly tackle.
