Family fishing fun in Myrtle Beach
Even in snowbird season, there are plenty of fish in the sea

For the first part of my family angling adventure, we got a taste of inshore and wreck fishing with Captain John Schuchman of Reel Action Fishing Charters. A transplanted northerner, Captain John has fished these waters for three decades, and it shows. Even though we visited in late December—the slowest time of the angling year—he put us on fish almost immediately, in one of the area’s innumerable brackish creeks. Here is my 14-year-old daughter Simone with our first (and biggest) fish of the day: a hard-fighting 17-inch black drum. Does she seem excited?
