DETAILS: An avid wildlife, nature and underwater photographer, Gary Purpur was on a grizzly bear eco-tour in Knight Inlet, B.C., when he captured this shot of a bear eating mussels—one of 857 photos he took that day. “I was fascinated to watch this young grizzly bear’s feeding habits,” he says. “The skill and dexterity it showed was wonderful to witness, and something I’ll never forget.”
