7 reasons why I keep fishing Ontario’s Bon Echo Provincial Park

#4 The fishing on Mazinaw Lake is good

Most of Bon Echo’s campsites are close to Mazinaw, a scenic and interesting Shield lake, with upper and lower basins, separated by a 15-metre wide narrows at Mazinaw Rock. Water access is very convenient, since the park has several boat ramps, plus a large lagoon with docking space.

The upper basin plunges to 450 feet, making it one of the deepest lakes in Ontario, and it’s generally deeper and  rockier than the lower basin, which is somewhat shallower and weedier. Mazinaw has good fishing for bass, walleye and pike. The cold depths are also home to a healthy population of highly prized lake trout. Just remember to check the fishing regs for Ontario’s Zone 18, so you can follow the seasons and limits.
