I would just as soon use the eye from a yellow perch or walleye to tip a jig or spoon than use live bait, especially in the winter. Why? I think predator fish zero in on the eyes of their prey like a target. Northland Lures has seized on this behaviour with its new Eye-Ball Spoon, which looks just like, well, an eye. It comes in 1/16-, 1/8- and ¼-ounce sizes and 18 colours. You won’t want to go panfishing again without one.
