Compensation Ottawa is paying the Inuit of northern Quebec’s Nunavik region for its complicity in killing more than 1,000 sled dogs during the 1950s and ’60s. The dogs, which were integral to the Inuit fishing and hunting way of life, were slaughtered due to “public health and safety” concerns.
