Professional outfitters and guides: These are the folks who live and breathe hunting every single day, not just the few times a year most of us manage to spend afield. And for them, success depends on the success of their clients—failure to put people on game is simply not an option. So when guides provide hunting advice, rest assured it’s based on years of hands-on experience. Indeed, they’ll often see, and take, as much game in an average season as many of us will in a lifetime. In short, these guys know their stuff.

With that in mind, we surveyed guides across the country in the spring of 2009, asking them to share their insights on the best cartridges, bullets, optics and more for hunting Canada’s big-game animals.
