#7  Or you can take it a little easier

Don’t want to pop out your shoulder on a tarpon or invent new curses to describe the agony of casting to tailing permit? There are loads of less fish that are easier to hook, but still fight like crazy, including several species of jacks, barracuda, mangrove snapper (above) and snook (below).

If you’re new to saltwater fishing, you’ll be blown away by how strong these fish are. That three-pound mangrove snapper I landed (top) fought like a 10-pound freshwater fish. It was also, along with the snook, absolutely delicious. The lodge kitchen cooked them in a shallow fry, similar to the shorelunch style I’d do at home, and I’d put the taste right up there with fresh walleye or crappie.
