#4  ENGLISH POINTER

Commonly referred to as simply the “pointer,” the medium-sized English pointer is a powerful, agile and driven gun dog. Developed in England by the aristocracy, this regal breed’s history goes back to the 1700s. Today, the English pointer is the most popular pointing breed used on hunting preserves in both North American and the United Kingdom.

These noble dogs are quick to learn and can make excellent family pets, while their calm focus and incredible endurance make them superb upland bird dogs. Trained to point, then flush birds on command, the English pointer is regarded as the widest-ranging of the pointing breeds, sometimes covering ground out to a half-kilometre in open fields.
