To commemorate Outdoor Canada’s golden anniversary, our long-time fishing editor shares his 50 favourite places across the land to wet a line
As anglers, we sometimes forget how blessed we are in this country. From my home in Kenora, Ontario, near the geographic centre of Canada, for example, I can access thousands of waterbodies crammed with almost every freshwater fish species you can imagine. Even more bewildering, I can hop on a plane and in a few short hours enjoy fishing along more kilometres of saltwater coastline than any other nation on earth has to offer.
All of this is to say that picking just 50 of my favourite places to fish has been a near impossible task. Fifty out of three million fishable lakes in Canada? Are you kidding me? Still, with that challenge top of mind, I compiled the following list of my favourite spots, many of them understandably in my water-rich home province of Ontario.
